Today is a perfect day to share my healing ginger smoothie recipe. So, I fell down some steps nearly a week ago. It was a sort of pitch black moment of distraction. I completely missed the last step, doubling over on my foot, giving it a very nasty twist.
Oh my goodness, did I ever fall! The pain was so excruciating I was very close to blacking out at the time. Later, as I watched it swelled like a puffer fish, I elevated it, applied ice and helichrysum essential oil.
After a trip to the hospital (early the next day), a rather surprised nurse came back and said it wasn’t actually fractured (yay!)… but rather badly injured. I was given crutches so that I could walk and told it would likely be two or three weeks before I would be able to walk properly again.
“Hmmmm”….. I thought!
Ginger – I need lots of it!
My spirit was incredibly positive and thought to myself, “ginger – I need lots of it”.
Ginger is one of natures most powerful anti-inflammation aids, containing incredibly potent anti–inflammatory compounds called gingerols.

I prescribed myself a healing ginger smoothie for breakfast and a ginger inspired salad for my lunches. At the time of writing, five days after the initial injury, I have been having a miraculous healing and am already walking again, woahhh – with only a slight limp and mild bruising to tell the tale!!!!
The swelling has gone right down to almost nothing and the pain has almost vanished to a bit of an ache where I have had to over compensate by relying other muscles. I am convinced that the ginger has made a massive difference (in conjunction with my positive thinking and helichrysum oil of course).
Give it a good blast – healing ginger smoothie
The important thing is that I have given it a really good blast of ginger.
I prefer fresh, organic ginger (from somewhere like Peru). Personally, I trust the healing vibrancy and life force of fresh, more than dried – although if I didn’t have fresh, I’d still go for the dried stuff any day.

Ginger goes amazingly well in smoothies. The combination of other healing foods that I use like maca, hemp seed and antioxidant rich blueberries make it an alchemical force to be reckoned with. Upping my daily portions of ginger was certainly an instrumental part of my super fast healing process.
Here’s one of the truly delicious ginger & hemp inspired smoothies that I enjoyed during my healing process…

Would like to make this to decrease swelling and help healing after a partial knee replacement. What is “water of a plant based milk”? Thank you.
Wonderful. Ginger is a really fantastic anti-inflammatory. You could also try applying arinca ointment/cream or helichrysum essential oil to reduce the swelling.
I had meant to say water (or a plant-based milk) – have just ammended it. Thank you for pointing it out 🙂
Thank you so much! Wishing you a speedy recovery as well!
Looks delicious and I hope you’re back to rights very soon x
Thank you Catriona.
Where do I find tahini…..I have lymphoma and feel I could benefit from this healing smoothie…
Hi Shirley,
You can find tahini in a health food store or online. You’d probably find all sorts of wonderful things to help support you if you can track down your nearest health food shop.
