Juice plant-foods and you’ll benefit from an almost instant immune boost for the system!

There are few things in life that give you such a rapid infusion of nutrients whilst making you feel so vibrant and alive! Given the incredible benefits that juicing can bring it really needs to find its way right to the top of our priority list. In my experience, drinking fresh vegetable juice actually frees up energy and gives me more time to do the things I love!

Do I need a juicer to juice vegetables and fruits?

Anything beyond citrus fruits requires a juicer. Luckily, there are lots of juicers available these days to suit every budget.

The two main types of juicers are as follows…

Centrifugal juicers

The most common and inexpensive type of juicer is known as the centrifugal juicer. This juicer is designed to push hard fruits and vegetables through a meshed chamber, where the flesh is rapidly separated from the juice. Centrifugal juicers are the cheapest options available. They tend to leave more pulp than the masticating juicers (see below) and are rather loud. Having said that, they are, however, an excellent option if you want to get into juicing and have a tighter budget (or just want to dip your toes in).

Masticating juicers

Masticating juicers effectively chew vegetables and hard fruits for you, producing high-quality cold-pressed juice. With a slower more sophisticated action, they squeeze out more of the juice than centrifugal juicers. This is especially helpful with greens and herbs.

Masticating juicers are generally more expensive than the centrifugal versions, although I got a model for about £100 recently when I accidentally left mine at a friend’s house for a while. So do look around.

My usual model has lasted so long that it has now been discontinued.
However, the updated version is here:

Omega Masticating Juicer. I highly recommend it.

Immune-boosting Carrot and Turmeric Juice

Yield: 1 large glass
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Super immune-immune boosting ingredients, juiced. Carrot, fresh tumeric, fresh ginger, apple and lemon.

Ingredients

  • 3 large organic carrots
  • 1.5 cm cubed fresh turmeric
  • 1.5 cm cubed fresh ginger
  • 1 large lemon
  • 1 large apple

Instructions

  1. Use organic ingredients so that you don't have to peel anything (except the lemon) - whilst benefiting from a healthier hit of nutrients. If there is soil on your carrots or spices, then do clean that off.
  2. Slice and discard the outer peel of the lemon (it will taste super lemony and unpleasant if you juice with peel intact).
  3. Cut up everything to fit in the feeder of your juicer (size will depend on your juicer).
  4. Feed though.
  5. Enjoy immediately for best benefits.

Notes

If you don't have fresh tumeric get dried turmeric instead, this will also work a treat!
