It is thought that putting the lion’s mane powder into hot water significantly increases the bio-availabilty of the medicinal compounds. Therefore I decided, on the whole, to enjoy my lion’s mane in a hot drink.
Which is the best way to buy Lion’s Mane for a hot drink?
It’s best to buy lions mane powder for making a hot drink. Hot water can help to increase the bio-availity of the active compounds in the mushroom powder. I use Lion’s Mane powder in the recipe below.
Get an ‘extracted’ Lion’s Mane powder if you can
Please note, however, all Lion’s Mane powders are not created equally.
If you can, it’s best to buy a Lion’s Mane powder that has had the bio-active compounds already extracted. In that way you can be extra sure you get it’s benefits.
You can however buy an organic powder fairly inexpensively! So I recommend going with whatever your budget will allow.

I’ve been making lion’s mane chocolate. It involves using my basic vegan chocolate recipe and simply adding in some lion’s mane powder at during the melting process.
Lion’s Mane mushroom tahini pudding
If I’ve forgotten to have my lion’s mane hot drink in the morning, I’ll often opt to have it in a tahini pudding instead. I simply mix a teaspoon of the lions mane powder in and do a version of my classic two minute tahini pudding.
Superfood Lion’s Mane Mushroom Smoothie
I’ll often have my lion’s mane powder in a smoothie. It’s such a simple way to get it in my daily cuisine. I’ll take any vegan smoothie recipe and simply blend a teaspoon of lion’s mane in there when I am making it.

Lion's Mane Mushroom Powder Drink
A tasty lion's mane mushroom drink. Hot and creamy with blended cashews, lucuma powder and coconut sugar.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon Lion's Mane mushroom powder
- 2 teaspoons lucuma powder
- 10 cashew nuts
- 2 teaspoons coconut sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 350ml water
Instructions
- Put all of the ingredients into a bullet blender.
Please note: If you don't have a bullet blender, use a regular blender. If your blender is not powerful then soak your cashews ahead of time. - Blend for about a minute until all of the ingredients are well combined. The blend should be super smooth and there should be no evidence of cashew pieces. If it is not super smooth, then blend for a little longer.
- Pour the blend into a saucepan.
- Bring to the drink to the boil.
- When it has come to the boil, pour into your mug and enjoy hot.
