Eagerly planting and growing foods since I was a teenager, wherever I’ve lived – I’ve never been put off by the lack of space available. There has always been some small yard, balcony or a windowsill to grow something edible on. My garden is somewhat larger these days and it is my dream to be self sufficient in plant based foods. Still have a long way to go though! With the right attitude it’s possible to grow a lot of food in a small amount of space. ‘Urban Homestead’ have just given me an incredible infusion of much needed inspiration for self sufficiency again. They live, eat and breath it, 24/7, walking their talk with whatever they have available. They are awesome!

These guys have a small Los Angeles based plot that takes the art of off grid self sufficiency to a whole new level. They manage to produce 6,000 pounds of organic produce every year on a 10th of an acre urban lot! Jaw dropping.

Growing our own food is essential in today’s world… for health, for the planet, for nature.

“In our society growing food yourself has become
the most radical of acts.
It is truly the only effective protest –
one that can – and will –
overturn the corporate powers that be.

By the process of working directly in harmony with nature,
we do the one thing, most essential to change the world…

we change ourselves!”
